A guide to BTS RM's philosophy of life and what we can all learn from it.

Hey, there! :) Before you go through this blog, a little activity.

Tick those that apply to yourself:

  • likes reading books

  • goes to art galleries and museums

  • enjoys nature activities

  • drinks lots of coffee

  • makes time for self but also spends time with friends

If you found yourself checking three or all items, then my friend, you have been Namjooning before the term even existed. All those activities I've mentioned, and all those others that you like doing, are forms of self-love and being, well...yourself!

Now, let's answer the question: "What IS Namjooning?"

김남준 Kim Namjoon or RM, as most know him, defined the term as "the act of living as Kim Namjoon" which involves a list of his favorite activities like "taking walks through parks, admiring nature, hanging out with crabs (lol), and having fun with friends" as said in an interview. We can also add to the list some verified information from social posts and official BTS accounts: hiking, riding a bicycle by the Han River, visiting art galleries, and appreciating and collecting art pieces.

As the term was coined by ARMY or BTS fans after his first name, we can notice that Namjooning is a reflection of RM's characteristics, maybe even a glimpse of the personality, that we've come to know and connect with.

To be perfectly honest, all of us can Namjoon in our way and call it as uniquely ours, but something that RM teaches us with his convictions are those precious moments of silence and contemplation, of being present, of living life as is: in Beauty and Truth, and in learning from life's contradictions and paradoxes, and of loving and celebrating Life, ourselves, and others with Love.

I encourage you to try and listen to one of RM’s songs and/or read lyric translations of his songs, and so I curated a 17-track What Namjooning Sounds Like Playlist for you to immerse in (and maybe see and appreciate how much of a natural artist and writer RM is haha).
